In Memory of
Kay K. Saintsing
On June 7,
2002, The Barbecue Festival unexpectedly lost its leader and
visionary to a heart arrhythmia. Kay had been the director of
The Barbecue Festival for the entire life of the event. Her
enthusiasm and dedication to this special celebration was
undeniable. Under her leadership, the festival had become the
largest one-day event in North Carolina and had received
numerous national awards.
She was a tireless advocate for North Carolina's tourism
industry and her extraordinary service to others will long be
remembered. Governor Easley wrote, "Kay Saintsing epitomized
public service at its very best." Her loss is significant, not
only in a personal sense to family and friends, but to all she
touched. Dr. Ray Howell said it best, "Her life will continue
because she invested in the lives of others." Her warmth,
kindness, energy, and selfless giving of her time are an
inspiration for us all and we will miss her.
As you enjoy the 28th Annual Barbecue Festival think of Kay and
celebrate!
